A Note From Our Pastor...

I pray you take the time out of your busy day to soak up all of the beauty our creator has provided for you. When you begin to   acknowledge God's handiwork all around you, you'll begin to appreciate the work God is doing within you. God bless you.

Over the next few months I'll be following up with you via email and our UMC-MV website. Our monthly "Flame" newsletter is a great way to communicate what's going on in the life of the church. More immediate ways to call attention to programming changes or additions is with our Sunday Worship bulletin and with digital notices like this one. There is a lot going on now and even more is on the horizon.

If you have any ideas for topics or issues that need clarification, please let me know by sending an email with your comments.

For now, I've been asked to list the following for you:

Mr. Edward Rose

Hired as New Organist/Choir Director

It is with great pleasure that the United Methodist Church of Martha's Vineyard welcome Mr. Edward Rose of Edgartown, as its new organist/music director.

Mr. Rose is native of Massachusetts, born and raised in Braintree. He attended Thayer Academy, Princeton University, and did graduate work at Harvard and Jesus College, Oxford.

Ed has served as organist/music director at many churches, representing various aspects of Christendom, both in the United States and in Germany. His first job was at Emmanuel Church in Braintree, Mass, at the age of 14. He studied with George Faxon at Trinity Church, Boston, for three years and, subsequently with Carl Weinrich for four years at Princeton. He also served as music director at the West Tisbury Congregational Church in the 1980's and as organist for the Roman Catholic churches for fifteen years in the 80's and 90's.

Mr. Rose has been married to the former Eleanor Wear for thirty-nine years and they live in Edgartown. Ed first met Eleanor while both were teaching at the Buckley School in Manhatten. Their adopted son Matt is commanding officer of the naval frigate USS Ingraham, and is presently crossing the Pacific for this third tour of duty in the Arabian Gulf.

Ed has already started playing for our Sunday worship and is currently hard at work building a choir. If you know anyone who is interested in music; willing to sing in a choir; perform special music; play an instrument; or would welcome a chance to go through hundreds of individual music books/sheets in our large archive of material, please contact the church office at 508.693.4424.
